A public forum on potential city regulations of recreational marijuana and businesses that would sell it will occur during an East Peoria City Council working session at 5 pm Tuesday, August 20. The meeting will occur in the council’s chambers in the Civic Complex at 401 W. Washington St. The working session will be followed by the regular city council meeting at 6 pm.
State of Illinois law legalizing the use and sale of recreational marijuana provides municipalities the ability to set their own regulations regarding the sale and use of the product including zoning, location and number of the businesses that will be allowed and sales tax rates.
The public will be able to comment and ask questions at the end of the working session. There will be no action taken by the council during the working session, and there are no items on the council’s regular meeting agenda on the topic.
