About

The Planning Commission oversees the City’s comprehensive plan and subdivision ordinance. It reviews and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding the comprehensive plan, developmental needs, proposed annexations, planned unit developments, and subdivisions of property. Members that include seven local citizens are appointed by the Mayor with consent by the City Council. Terms run for three years.

Purpose

The purpose of the Planning Commission is to hold public hearings for proposed preliminary and final plats for new subdivisions, plats of survey, Comprehensive Plan (PDF) amendments and annexations. The Commission not only reviews developments within the City, but has jurisdiction within 1 and a half miles of the corporate city limits.

After the public hearings the Commission makes recommendations to the City Council, who renders the final decision.
