The race is on for those on the go this holiday season! The annual FOLEPI River Trail Classic is celebrating its 30th anniversary and in 2020 will utilize a staggered start. This and some additional changes to the 4-mile race are due to COVID-19's Phase 4 social distancing requirements.
The River Trail Classic attracts participants from throughout the country. The event is open to men, women and children of all ages. Dogs are not allowed on the course.
The 4-mile run occurs on a scenic, mostly downhill, point-to-point course on the East Peoria River Trail of Illinois. Transportation is provided from the Fon du Lac Park District Administration Building, 201 Veterans Drive, East Peoria, to the starting line on Frevent Road from 7:45 - 8:40 a.m. The bus for walkers leaves park district administration building at 8:15 a.m.
2020 Changes for the 4-Mile Race
All runners will start in groups between 8 and 9 a.m. In-person races must be done in groups of less than 50 participants. Each bus holds 40 people, so each group will be below the 50-person threshold. Each bus makes up one group of runners.
Face masks are required to be worn on the bus but do not need to be worn while running.
The first bus will leave the park district administration building at 7:45 a.m. The runners will unload at Frevent Road and will start the run shortly after arriving at approximately 8 - 8:10 a.m. There will be an official starter at the starting line and the clock will start with this group.
When the next bus arrives, the official starter will determine if enough time has passed from the previous group. The official starter will then start the next group. This will continue through the last bus which will leave the park district administration building at 8:40 a.m.
The race is chipped timed and there will be a starting mat so each runner will get an accurate race time. Watches are highly encouraged to be worn since the finishing clock will have started with the first group of runners.
The restrooms and warming building at the starting line will be open for use, and a sag wagon will be available. Participants who miss starting with their group, and those who drive to the starting line, will start with the next group of runners.
The bus for walkers will leave the park district administration building at 8:15 a.m. The walkers will start on the route once they have departed the bus.
